Dr Jimmy Tan presents paper on ‘Christian Spiritual Formation’

The Biennial Meeting of the Society for the Study of Christian Spirituality,
Celebrating its 25th Anniversary
28-29 June 2017
Kloster Kappel, Kappel am Albis, Switzerland

Rev Dr Jimmy Tan presented a paper at the Biennial meeting of the Society for the Study of Christian Spirituality. The paper was entitled Cultivating Unceasing Prayer in a Southeast Asian Theological College. The meeting marked the 25th anniversary of the Society, whose purpose is to foster study and scholarly exchange in the field of Christian Spirituality. This year’s meeting was unique in that it was held in tandem with the Third International Ecumenical Conference of the Center for the Academic Study of Christian Spirituality at the University of Zurich (26-27 June, 2017). The two events shared the theme Pray Without Ceasing: Perspectives in Spirituality Studies.

The meetings saw a gathering of scholars across the globe that included several from Africa, Australia, and Asia. Two presenters were from Hong Kong and Singapore. A rich variety of papers were presented and they spanned a broad history of Christian spirituality, representing Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant perspectives. Dr Tan’s paper focused on the cultivation of prayer in the context of Christian spiritual formation at Trinity Theological College.
