Credit Transfer and COURSE EXEMPTION FOR BASIC DEGREES

Credit Transfer and Course Exemption for Basic Degrees

Matriculated students are allowed to apply for credit transfer and/or course exemption, provided the credits were obtained not more than ten years at the time of matriculation (this is applicable also to holders of any certificate, diploma or licentiate awarded by EQUIP or QiCheng).

The application of credit transfer and course exemption are subject to the following regulations:

Credit Transfer

  1. Only matriculated students’ request for credit transfer will be considered. Students seeking credit transfer from recognised accredited institutions will need to provide:
    1. transcript send directly to the Registrar’s Office from the institution;
    2. course syllabus; and
    3. assignment and examination papers to the Registrar’s Office for assessment.
  1. Transfer credits may not exceed 50% of that programme’s curriculum.

Course Exemption

  1. The college allows new students to request for course exemption at the beginning of their studies. No course-exemption application will be considered after the commencement of classes.
  2. The application of course exemption will be administered by the Registrar’s Office. Decisions on course exemption concerning whether
    (a) there are credits transferable,
    (b) there is course replacement required, and
    (c) the grades of courses exempted will count towards the Grade Point Average (GPA) are at the sole discretion of the college.
  3. For the application of course exemption involving transfer of credits:
    1. The credits must be obtained not more than ten years at the time of matriculation. This is applicable to holders of any certificate, diploma or licentiate awarded by the Center for the Development of Christian Ministry and the Centre for the Study of Christianity in Asia.
    2. For MTS graduates or MTS students transferred to the MDiv programme, they are allowed to apply for transfer of credits of the MTS courses. Once the application is granted, the MTS diploma needs to be surrendered in the case of MTS graduates, and the grades of those courses exempted will count towards the Grade Point Average (GPA). The number of transferable credits should not exceed 50% of the credits required for programme completion.
    3. For TTC’s occasional students who have applied successfully for admission to a degree programme, they are allowed to apply for transfer up to 15 credits obtained not more than three years earlier at the date of matriculation.
    4. If the credits were obtained at another accredited seminary, the applicant must provide the transcript, course descriptions and course syllabi of the courses concerned for the Academic Dean’s Office to assess their compatibility and suitability.
  4. In some situations, a validation test (see below) may be conducted to allow the student to demonstrate his or her competency in the subject concerned.
  5. When course exemption is granted with course replacement required, the student will be advised of the availability of replacement course.
  6. Outcome of Application: Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application through email.
  7. Students granted course exemptions are deemed to have fulfilled the requirement of the exempted courses.  It is the responsibility of the student to be competent in the exempted courses so that his or her study will not be affected for courses that require the exempted courses as prerequisites.

Validation Tests

  1. Validation tests may be required for the following categories of students.
    1. Those seeking credit transfer of work of unknown quality; where the academic standard of the the coursework is impossible or difficult to assess
    2. Those seeking advanced credit standing for learning done in informal or unstructured learning situations.
    3. Those who have accumulated credits more than three years before the date of matriculation.
  2. A validation test fee of S$110 (inclusive of GST) is chargeable for each course.
