简介
First Year at TTC: 2015
Rev Dr Jimmy Tan teaches courses on pastoral care and marriage & family, and has taught pastoral theology and pastoral spirituality as a guest lecturer.
Jimmy previously served as the Teochew congregation pastor at Singapore Life Church (1995) and as the English congregation pastor at Bethel Presbyterian Church (1996-2009). His exposure to pastoral ministry in a multi-lingual and multi-cultural ecclesial context has sensitized him to its peculiarities, strengths and opportunities for ministry. He is passionate about communicating the gospel across the languages and generations and sees great relevance for its ministry for Singapore.
Jimmy has served in various capacities in the Presbyterian Synod and its English Presbytery. He was a member of the Synod’s major initiative on Growing Healthy Churches and its Church Relations Committee. He served as chairman of the English Presbytery’s Preachers and Personnel Committee during his tenure as its Vice-Moderator (2006-7).
He has had opportunity to work with emerging leaders and pastors in a number of different church contexts. The experiences shaped his view of pastoral and spiritual leadership and prompted him to give particular attention to the work of spiritual formation and guidance. He critically engages both Reformed and Catholic spirituality in an ecumenical context.
Jimmy is married to Soh Kwan, and they have three daughters and a family dog, Truffles. As a family, they enjoy conversations around the dinner table, exploring nature and playing with Truffles, of course.
