On the 3rd February 2020, leaders from the Synod Office, the Chinese Presbytery and the English Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in Singapore (PCS) met with TTC lecturers and students from the Presbyterian denomination over a lunch gathering and sharing.
Rev Dr Edwin Tay, Acting Principal, gave a speech, expressing welcome and thanks to the participants, before commencing with lunch. Following lunch, Synod Moderator Rt Rev Keith Lai, Chinese Presbytery Moderator Rev Dr Teoh Boo Cheow, and English Presbytery Moderator Rev Vincent Lee addressed the participants. Rt Rev Keith Lai urged students to be obedient and humble in serving God and to continually rise to the challenges that ministry calls for. Rev Dr Teoh encouraged the students to learn and to look forward to the future, quoting a Chinese poem of the Tang Dynasty: “Ascend another storey to have further hindsight and foresight.” Rev Lee also encouraged the students to keep soldering on for Christ. Following the three addresses, the students split into their respective Presbyteries to have further conversations.
The lunch gathering has given the Presbyterian students an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the operations of the Synod and the respective Presbyteries, the coordination and cooperation present, and the common sharing and application of resources. It is our hope that the Presbyterian students will continue to carry on the Presbyterian tradition of persevering in service to our Lord as symbolised by the burning bush — “On Fire but yet not consumed.”
