Synopsis

This overview course introduces participants to the New Testament in its different layers. The course aims to help participants better read the New Testament: as individual texts within the cultural worlds of Graeco-Roman civilisation and Second Temple Judaism, as sub-collections of texts within literary genres, as a corpus in continuity and discontinuity with the Old Testament, and as part of the canon of sacred Scripture. The course will also illustrate how the New Testament and its major themes have been received and (re)appropriated through time, thus helping participants reflect on its relevance for today.
