Jerome Prize for Hebrew 2026

This prize is awarded annually to the top Hebrew student in the Chinese and English Departments respectively, as well as to the student showing the greatest improvement in the subject. It is named in honour of the man who fought doggedly to restore the Hebrew text to the Church at a time when the Septuagint held sway.

John Brown Award for Greek 2026

The prize is awarded annually to the top student in Greek in the Chinese and English Departments respectively, as well as to the student showing the greatest improvement in the subject. Its name recalls the shepherd boy who, while tending sheep, taught himself Greek and went on to become a professor of divinity.

Frederick Beuchner Prize for Homiletics 2026

This prize is awarded annually for excellence in homiletics in both the Chinese and English Departments. It is named after a Christian author whom many journalists consider one of the finest religious writers of our time, and whose deep passion is helping people encounter God in unexpected times and places.
