A Via Dolorosa guided prayer journey
The Holy Week at Trinity Theological College this year had a Via Dolorosa (the Way of the Cross) guided prayer journey. It was a meditation on Jesus’ path to the cross from Jerusalem towards Golgotha through icons, devotional booklets and kinesthetic meditation. The devotion not only ministered to community at TTC, its reach extended to the students, teachers, and staff members of St Francis Methodist School (SFMS) next door.
The bilingual Via Dolorosa meditation began at the space outside the back of the chapel and flowed into the prayer garden. It was meticulously planned and devoutly set up by Regan Britstra, our spiritual formation student committee co-chair.
Based on the evidence of activities, eg, pinned prayers and seed packets deposited, which were part of the meditation, some 60 people took part. More probably benefited as not all may have taken part in the physical prayer actions detailed in the booklets.
It was estimated that seven adults, including Christian ministry staff, and 10 students from SFMS experienced the meditation, besides those in the TTC community.
The Via Dolorosa meditation was set up for the vespers on Tue 24 Mar 2026 was open to all until Holy Saturday on 4 Apr 2026. We are grateful to Regan and his wife for this labour of love for the community.
