Synopsis

It has been said that our attention spans for non-digital information are getting shorter due to the constant use of technology. If this is true, how do we effectively preach the Gospel to an audience who are used to having information quick and served best with videos? This course seeks to equip the occasional lay preacher to fundamentals of biblical preaching in the context of a fast-changing world. At the end of the course, it is hoped that the student will understand what preaching is, the person behind the preaching, how we can effectively prepare and deliver a sermon. Topics include: (1) What is a sermon, who is the preacher? (2) Preparing a sermon through study of a given text (3) Building an outline of the sermon (4) Illustrations and applications (5) Introduction, conclusion and transitions (6) Delivering the sermon (7) Practice and evaluation.
