In our contemporary world of religious diversity, how should Christians and the Church respond to the other faiths? Dr Tan Loe Joo presented an open lecture on 27 Sep 2016 to mark the publication of his book on this topic, which is part of the ETHOS Engagement Series aimed at addressing relevant issues to the church and society from a biblical and theological perspective. About 160 persons attended the lecture that was held at St Andrew’s Cathedral, and this was followed by a lively Q&A session.
This book is entitled “Religious Pluralism: A Christian Perspective” and presents the various Christian responses to religious plurality based on a tri-fold typology of Soteriological Pluralism, Inclusivism and Exclusivism. It describes some of the challenges that religious pluralism poses for the Christian faith before analyzing the theological merits and pitfalls of each standpoint. Copies of the book are available from the Bible Society of Singapore.
