Professor Markus Bockmuehl gave a very inspirational and practical talk on \u2018The Vocation of a Christian Scholar\u2019 on 13 January 2016. What made it eminently engaging were the anecdotes, culled from the wide experience of Professor Bockmuehl in his many years of teaching biblical studies and supervising doctoral students. The icing on the cake was the devotional snippets from scripture and church history. Participants came away blessed, and having a better understanding of the challenges and pitfalls, and a greater appreciation for the need to serve with faithfulness and stout-heartedness in such a vocation.<\/p>\n
Professor Markus Bockmuehl is the Dean Ireland Professor in the Exegesis of Holy Scripture at the University of Oxford. Prior to his arrival at Oxford in 2007, he held full professorial posts at both the University of St Andrews and the University of Cambridge. He has published widely on many biblical topics but he is especially well-known for his work on the interaction between Second Temple Judaism and early Christianity.<\/p>\n
In addition to his scholarly pursuits, he maintains a strong interest in equipping the Christian Church for bearing witness in our challenging times. He is also a good friend of TTC, helping us secure fantastic discounts for books and keeping a keen eye on our development.<\/p>\n
