In Liturgical Theology, Simon Chan issues a call to evangelicals to develop a mature theology of the church–an ecclesiology that is grounded in the church’s identity as a worshiping community. Evangelicals, he argues, are confused about the meaning and purpose of the church in part because they have an inadequate understanding of Christian worship. As a remedy for this ailment, Chan presents a coherent theology of the church that pays particular attention to the liturgical practices that have constituted Christian worship throughout the centuries. With a seasoned eye and steady hand, he guides the reader through these practices and unpacks their significance for theology, spirituality and the renewal of evangelicalism in the postmodern era. Chan’s proposal advances the conversation among evangelicals regarding the relationship between theology and worship. In contrast to some theologians who have tended to emphasize a sociological analysis, Chan argues that we need to consider what is essential to the church’s theological identity. Drawing on the larger Christian tradition, Chan argues that we discover that identity primarily in the structure and significance of Christian worship.
[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row padding_mobile=”off” column_padding_mobile=”on” _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_divider color=”#eacfa5″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”]
[/et_pb_divider][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_3,2_3″ padding_mobile=”off” column_padding_mobile=”on” _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_image src=”https://www.ttc.edu.sg/chinese/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/TTC19-Pentecostal-Ecclesiology.jpg” show_in_lightbox=”on” align_tablet=”center” align_phone=”center” align_last_edited=”on|desktop” admin_label=”Book Cover 03″ _builder_version=”4.16″ use_border_color=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”]
[/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”2_3″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Title – Pentecostal Ecclesiology” _builder_version=”4.20.2″ text_font=”Georgia||||” use_border_color=”off” border_style=”solid” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Pentecostal Ecclesiology

Author:
Simon Chan

Pages:
143

Weight:
250g

Publication Year:
2011

ISBN:
978-1-905679-15-7

Price:
$40.00

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Description – Pentecostal Ecclesiology” _builder_version=”4.16″ text_font=”Georgia||||” use_border_color=”off” border_style=”solid” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Synopsis

This book argues that if the Pentecostal movement is to overcome its excessive individualism and structural instability the way forward is not more institutionalization but a coherent and robust ecclesiology based on the Pentecost event, which is the coming of the Holy Spirit in his own person into the church. A Pentecostal ecclesiology is essentially the working-out of the ramifications of that key event. The book takes a more ontological understanding of the relationship between the Spirit and the church than would Protestant and evangelical ecclesiologies. In this respect, it has more in common with Orthodoxy. It is further argued that this realignment away from Protestantism and evangelicalism toward Orthodoxy, far from removing Pentecostals from their roots, actually brings them much closer to the heart of Pentecostal spirituality.
[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row padding_mobile=”off” column_padding_mobile=”on” _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_divider color=”#eacfa5″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”]
[/et_pb_divider][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_3,2_3″ padding_mobile=”off” column_padding_mobile=”on” _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_image src=”https://www.ttc.edu.sg/chinese/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/TTC20-Pentecostal-Theology-the-Christian-Spiritual-Tradition.jpg” show_in_lightbox=”on” align_tablet=”center” align_phone=”center” align_last_edited=”on|desktop” admin_label=”Book Cover 04″ _builder_version=”4.16″ use_border_color=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”]
[/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”2_3″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Title – Pentecostal Theology and the Christian Spiritual Tradition” _builder_version=”4.16″ text_font=”Georgia||||” use_border_color=”off” border_style=”solid” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Pentecostal Theology and the Christian Spiritual Tradition

Author:
Simon Chan

Pages:
129

Weight:
202g

Publication Year:
2011

ISBN:
978-1-61097-084-6

Price:
$20.00
[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Description – Pentecostal Theology and the Christian Spiritual Tradition” _builder_version=”4.16″ text_font=”Georgia||||” use_border_color=”off” border_style=”solid” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Synopsis

This book deals with the problem of Pentecostal ‘traditioning’. Traditioning has been ineffective thus far because the richness of Pentecostal faith and experience has been inadequately captured in the classical Pentecostal doctrines of Spirit-baptism and glossolalia. A more adequate understanding of the key theological symbol of Pentecostalism, glossolalia, emerges when it is interpreted in the light of Christian spiritual tradition. Within this larger tradition glossolalia can be seen as bringing together both the ascetical and contemplative dimensions of the Christian life. border_style=”solid” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Synopsis

The theodicy of the remarkable Scottish Congregationalist theologian Peter Taylor Forsyth has long been recognized as a vital and significant contribution to twentieth-century theology. Up until now, however, there has not been a substantial full-length treatment of Forsyth’s work on the problem of evil. The Theodicy of Peter Taylor Forsyth fills this lacuna by setting out, in a fairly systematic and comprehensive manner, Forsyth’s justification of God in the face of evil. In so doing, it also illuminates several other related areas of his thought, such as his epistemology and Christology, as well as his understanding of sin, the atonement, providence, divine passibility, human origins, and the God-world relationship. Bringing Forsyth’s approach to the subject into conversation with other prominent thinkers like Leibniz, Dostoyevsky, Camus, Moltmann, Hick, Bauckham, and Fiddes, this book also suggests ways in which Forsyth’s justification of God contributes to the current state of Christian theodicy. It highlights Forsyth’s ability to integrate insights from different approaches, even those that have hitherto generally been considered diametrically opposed notions. Forsyth’s theodicy therefore presents an integrative approach to the topic, with every theme flowing from and returning to a clear center: the cross of Christ. As the book also makes clear, Forsyth considers theodicy to be an immensely practical discipline, with significant implications for human life. In every sense, therefore, it constitutes a “crucial” justification of the ways of God to humanity.
[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row padding_mobile=”off” column_padding_mobile=”on” _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_divider color=”#eacfa5″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”]
[/et_pb_divider][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_3,2_3″ padding_mobile=”off” column_padding_mobile=”on” _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_image src=”https://www.ttc.edu.sg/chinese/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/TTC40-Preaching-That-Comes-Alive.jpg” show_in_lightbox=”on” align_tablet=”center” align_phone=”center” align_last_edited=”on|desktop” admin_label=”Book Cover 16″ _builder_version=”4.16″ use_border_color=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”]
[/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”2_3″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Title – Preaching That Comes Alive: Delivering a Word from the Lord” _builder_version=”4.24.2″ text_font=”Georgia||||” use_border_color=”off” border_style=”solid” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Preaching That Comes Alive: Delivering a Word from the Lord

Author:
Maggie Low

Pages:
288

Publication Year:
2017

ISBN:
978-178-36-8244-7

Price:
$30.00

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Description – Preaching That Comes Alive: Delivering a Word from the Lord” _builder_version=”4.16″ text_font=”Georgia||||” use_border_color=”off” border_style=”solid” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Description

People go to church every Sunday hoping to hear a life-giving word from the Lord but often find that they have to make do with either the dry crust of cognitive sermons or the empty calories of emotional exhortations. This book provides preachers with the tools to feed their flock with hearty sustenance.

Using real-life sermon examples from across Asia that reflect issues facing Asian Christians, Maggie Low builds a picture of a sermon as a body, taking you step-by-step through guidelines for what this body needs to come alive. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced preacher, you will learn to preach more confidently and relevantly through this skillful integration of biblical theology, homiletical theory, spirituality, and communication skills. Preaching cannot deliver life unless preachers themselves listen to the Word of Life. Dr Low guides the reader to exegete the Scriptures and to listen to God personally so that they can deliver a life-giving word to the hearers.
[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_3,2_3″ padding_mobile=”off” column_padding_mobile=”on” _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_image src=”https://www.ttc.edu.sg/chinese/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Book-Cover-jpg.jpg” title_text=”Book Cover-jpg” show_in_lightbox=”on” align_tablet=”center” align_phone=”center” align_last_edited=”on|desktop” admin_label=”Book Cover 16″ _builder_version=”4.20.2″ use_border_color=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”]
[/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”2_3″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Title – God, I’m Angry!” _builder_version=”4.27.5″ text_font=”Georgia||||” use_border_color=”off” border_style=”solid” global_colors_info=”{}”]

God, I’m Angry!

Author:
Maggie Low

Pages:
161

Publication Year:
2023

ISBN:
978-1-83973-685-8

Price:
$25.00 (sold out)

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Description – God, I’m Angry!” _builder_version=”4.20.2″ text_font=”Georgia||||” use_border_color=”off” border_style=”solid” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Description

Is it a sin for Christians to be angry? After all, didn’t Jesus teach his disciples to forgive unconditionally?

Rev. Dr. Maggie Low answers both of these questions with a resounding “No!” Debunking unhealthy assumptions about anger and forgiveness, God, I’m Angry! lays the groundwork for a biblical understanding of righteous anger, conditional forgiveness, and unconditional love. Low thoroughly engages both Old Testament and New Testament texts to demonstrate that biblical forgiveness is always reliant upon repentance. Examining the psalms of vengeance in their original context, she also establishes that there is such a thing as a healthy, and holy, expression of anger – a way to “do anger” with God that makes space for healing and restored relationship.

Alongside profound theological insight, this book provides a step-by-step guide for application in pastoral counselling contexts and includes real life examples from Low’s extensive ministry experience. Is the term simply another way of describing Christianity today, or is the term a product of the deep binaries resulting from the decolonization model? Are the challenges of documentation merely technical or are they profoundly theological? I cannot commend this thoughtful and crucial collection too highly. – IAIN R. TORRANCE, President, Princeton Theological Seminary

Documentation is a practice that is crucial to any kind of research. Conceptualizing documentation itself is a theme that underlies this book. By entering into the theological foundations of “documenting world Christianity in the 21st century,” this work offers a perspective that is positive, confident and profound, especially in regard to a subject that is pivotal to missiology and to the whole of Christian theology as well. – ADAM WOLANIN, SJ, Full Professor, Faculty of Missiology, Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome

This book gives an excellent introduction to the challenges and prospects of documenting missionary experiences. The rich encounter between the Gospel, its heralds and hearers in different cultures and nations for the past 2,000 years can easily be lost and forgotten. This book highlights the needs and challenges of collecting missionary experiences from all over the world in the present time. – JAROSŁAW RÓŻAŃSKI, OMI, Professor and Head of Missiology, Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University, Warsaw

There is a great deal of serious and technical content in this book for historical and missiological scholars. But the specifics are connected to the depths of reflection on memory, and hence ecclesial identity. I recommend the book to a wider audience. – GEORGE SUMNER, Principal, Wycliffe College, University of Toronto

This book is a guide and an inspiration for all interested in World Christianity. Its contributors ably demonstrate the variety of documentation and methods of collection and call persuasively for a sharing of memories and interpretations across the globe. – EMMA WILD-WOOD, Director, Henry Martyn Centre, Cambridge

Documentation may sound a largely technical matter, a concern principally for the librarians and archivists who service academic studies. This book shows how crucial it is, not just to scholarship, but to the life and mission of the Church throughout the world. It is stuffed full of good things. Some of them are richly suggestive theologically; some are revealing in surprising ways about Christian history, thought and life, not least in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Some are not just powerful but potentially explosive in their implications, especially if we neglect their message. It is a book not merely for specialists, but for all who care about Christian mission. – ANDREW F. Since the Second Vatican Council, the Catholic church has been grappling with this question, culminating in a recent document, Dominus Iesus in 2000. In the post-DI climate, the British theologian, Gavin D’Costa, has been described as a “representative post-DI theologian of religions.” And with good reason, since other theologians such as Jacques Dupuis whose work along the lines of “neo-Rahnerianism” have been curtailed by DI.

D’Costa’s work has spanned the past three decades and is aimed at developing a theology that echoes developments within the Catholic church’s efforts to grapple with the existence of other religions. In doing so, he has appropriated the doctrine of the Trinity by reasoning it provides the very resources for interacting with “Others” and developed a form of Trinitarian inclusivism. Based on the work of patristic theologians such as Lewis Ayres and Michel Barnes and their conception of a “Pro-Nicene” theological matrix, this book is an attempt to assess whether D’Costa’s utilization of trinitarian resources for contemporary concerns is faithful to the tradition. The book concludes that while there is much to commend in D’Costa’s system, there remain some features not fully consonant with classical Trinitarianism.
[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row padding_mobile=”off” column_padding_mobile=”on” _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_divider color=”#eacfa5″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”]
[/et_pb_divider][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_3,2_3″ padding_mobile=”off” column_padding_mobile=”on” _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_image src=”https://www.ttc.edu.sg/chinese/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/TTC60-The-Priesthood-of-Christ.jpg” show_in_lightbox=”on” align_tablet=”center” align_phone=”center” align_last_edited=”on|desktop” admin_label=”Book Cover 21″ _builder_version=”4.16″ use_border_color=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”]
[/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”2_3″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Title – The Priesthood of Christ” _builder_version=”4.16″ text_font=”Georgia||||” use_border_color=”off” border_style=”solid” global_colors_info=”{}”]

The Priesthood of Christ
Atonement in the Theology of John Owen (1616 – 1683)

Author:
Edwin E.M. This work is the first full-scale monograph on the subject. Drawing on recent historiographical studies on the intellectual history of Protestant Orthodoxy and the full range of Owen’s writings, Dr Tay demonstrates that at the heart of Owen’s atonement theology is his peculiar understanding of Christ’s priesthood conceived in terms of the oblation and intercession of Christ, performed in the states of humiliation and exaltation.

This book belongs to the monograph series Studies in Christian History and Thought by Paternoster Press.

Contents

Chapter 1 Introduction
Chapter 2 The Agent of Redemption
Chapter 3 The Means of Redemption: Christ the Mediator
Chapter 4 The Means of Redemption: Christ’s Priestly Office
Chapter 5 The Means of Redemption: Satisfaction for Sin
Chapter 6 The End of Redemption
Chapter 7 Conclusion
[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row padding_mobile=”off” Classical Protestant understandings are seen as the basis of a contemporary liturgical piety centred on the sacraments. It aims to encourage Protestants to rediscover their traditional sacramental theologies and practices in order that they might recover their distinctive identities and revitalize their witness in the world. To know and understand a church s sacramental faith and practice is to find the heart of its theology and faith. This book is intended for pastors and other church leaders who want to renew the worship life of their churches by re-discovering the sacraments, particularly the sacramental traditions of their own churches.
[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row padding_mobile=”off” column_padding_mobile=”on” _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_divider color=”#eacfa5″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”]
[/et_pb_divider][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_3,2_3″ padding_mobile=”off” column_padding_mobile=”on” _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_image src=”https://www.ttc.edu.sg/chinese/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/TTC64-Twelve-Whys-of-Worship.jpg” show_in_lightbox=”on” align_tablet=”center” align_phone=”center” align_last_edited=”on|desktop” admin_label=”Book Cover 24″ _builder_version=”4.16″ use_border_color=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”]
[/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”2_3″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Title – Twelve Whys of Worship” _builder_version=”4.27.5″ text_font=”Georgia||||” use_border_color=”off” border_style=”solid” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Twelve Whys of Worship

Author:
Jeffrey Truscott

Pages:
168

Publication Year:
2018

ISBN:
978-981-48-0722-7

Price:
$20.00

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Description – Twelve Whys of Worship” _builder_version=”4.16″ text_font=”Georgia||||” use_border_color=”off” border_style=”solid” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Contents

Written by a scholar with years of experience in teaching and pastoral ministry, Twelve Whys of Worship by Jeffrey Truscott explores the reasons behind the central actions of Christian worship.
