Entrance and Application Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in a previous degree programme. This capacity may also be indicated by an average of B in pertinent subjects.
  3. Transcripts for all academic study beyond secondary school showing high academic performance.
  4. Reference letters from two sources -- local church or its equivalent, and faculty of previous institutions of learning attesting to:
      a) Candidate's suitability for leadership in worship and music ministry
     b) Academic (and musical) ability to undertake a course of study at the graduate level
  5. English Proficiency - TOEFL 550 (paper) or 213 (computer)
  6. For MTS Liturgy and Worship specifically, an audition tape of leadership in worship (worship leading or preaching)
  7. For MTS Church Music specifically:
     a) Audition or Video Tape of Performance (3 contrasting works)
     b) Music Theory Placement Examination. Remedial course required if candidates do not pass the placement test.
     c) Music History Placement Examination. Remedial course required if candidates do not pass the placement test.


Curriculum

  1. A total of 65 credit hours are required for graduation.
  2. A core Master of Theological Studies course (for both tracks) are:
     a)  Old Testament 1 and 2
     b) New Testament 1 and 2
     c) Theology 1 and 2
     d) Introduction to Biblical Interpretation
  3. Students in MTS Worship and Liturgy track will also take MTS core subjects Church History 1 and 2.
  4. Students in MTS Church Music will take "Church Music History 1" and "Church Music History 2" instead of MTS Church History 1 and 2.
  5. The remaining MTS Worship and Liturgy curriculum consists of:
     a)  Introduction to Liturgical Studies (3 credits)
     b) Conducting: Worship Leading/Cantoring (3 credits)
     c) Ensemble--Asian and Western: Vocal and Instrumental (1 credits)
     d) Worship Traditions 1: Rites and Sacraments (3 credits)
     e) Hymnology: Theology of Congregational Songs (3 credits)
     f) Worship Design: Plan and Design (3 credits)
     g) Worship Traditions 2: Liturgical Year and Space (3 credits)
     h) Worship and Arts Ministry and Administration (3 credits)
     i) Seminar in Liturgy and Music (3 credits)
     j) Worship Traditions 3: Contemporary Practices of Christian Worship (3 credits)
     k) Ritual Studies (3 credits)
     l) Electives (3 credits)
     m) Graduation Project/Research (3 credits)
     n) Voice/Keyboard (1 credit)
  6. The remaining MTS Church Music curriculum consists of:
     a)  Introduction to Liturgical Studies (3 credits)
     b)  Conducting: Worship Leading/Cantoring (3 credits)
     c) Applied Major -- 3 semesters @ 1 credit per semester
     d) Ensemble (Asian and Western: Vocal and Instrumental) - 4 semesters @ 1 credit per semester
     e) Worship Design: Plan and Design (3 credits)
     f) Asian Church Music (3 credits)
     g) Worship Arts Ministry/Administration (3 credits)
     h) Voice keyboard - 1 semester @ 1 credit
     i) Seminar in Liturgy and Music (3 credits)
     j) Hymnology: Theology of Congregational Songs (3 credits)
     k) Worship Traditions 3: Contemporary Practices of Christian Worship (3 credits)
     l) Electives (3 credits)
     m) Graduation Project (3 credits)
  7. To graduate, candidates are expected to maintain an average of C (GPA 2.3)
  8. Candidates may complete the programme in two years for full-time study or up to 6 years to complete.
  9. Part-time candidates have up to six years to complete the programme.
  10. Candidates are regarded as students of Trinity Theological College and the Methodist School of Music. They shall have full access to the resources available in both institutions and are expected to contribute to the life and activities of both institutions as and when possible.


Fee Structure

  1. Lectures will cost $126.50 per credit hour.
  2. Total tuition fee for MTS Worship and Liturgy track will be $8,523 for 4 semesters ($126.50 x 65 + $300 for 1 applied course fee)
  3. Total tuition fee for the MTS Church Music Track is $9,723 ($126.50 x 65 + $300 x 5 applied courses)
  4. There is a $300 applied music fee for voice/instrumental classes and individual lessons.
  5. There will also be a fee of $50 per semester for students who use MSM practice studios.
