Anglican Studies by Michael Poon

Michael Nai-Chiu Poon is director and Asian Christianity research coordinator of
the Centre for the Study of Christianity in Asia, Trinity Theological College. He is a member of the
Inter-Anglican Standing Commission for Unity, Faith and Order, and an Anglican member on the
Anglican - Roman Catholic International Commission. He is editor of the
CSCA
Christianity in Southeast Asia Series, the
CSCA Historical Reprints, and the
CSCA Occasional Papers Series. From 2006-2008, he served as convener of
the Global South Anglican Theological Formation and Education Task Force that
produced the report Anglican Catechism in Outline: A Common Home
Between Us. From 2011, he is a board member of
The Living Church
Foundation.
He is an honorary canon of Saint Andrew's Cathedral, Singapore. In 2011, he served as
John A. Mackay Professor of World Christianity in Princeton Theological
Seminary. From July 2011, he is appointed sub-warden of Saint Peter's Hall, Trinity Theological College, by the Diocese of Singapore.
His main interests are in promoting a more
expansive understanding of world Christianity and in offering support for
Christians in East Asia to interpret themselves. At present he directs the
TTC
Handbook on Popular Spiritual Movements in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia
publication project.Michael Poon was born in Hong Kong and
received education in the University of British Columbia (B.Sc.1975, M.Sc.1977), Wycliffe College, Toronto (M.Div.1977), and Balliol College,
Oxford University (D.Phil.1984), In 1999 he received the Medal for
Professional Merit from the Macao Government for contribution in education. Michael Poon served in Anglican churches
in Hong Kong and Macao from 1984 to 2004. From 1998 to 2004, he was General
Secretary of the Missionary Area of Macao. He moved to Singapore in June 2004.
