Course Title
Developing Methods for Studying Congregations in East Asia
Description
This course introduces the discipline of congregational studies to new postgraduate students researching in Asian Christianity. The course follows the themes outlined in Nancy T. Ammerman¡¯s influential book Studying Congregations. A New Handbook. This course prepares students to present a thesis proposal on local church history.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, participants will:
gain hands-on experience in methodologies in congregational studies
be familiar of research tools used in historical research
produce a MTh thesis proposal on studies in local Christianity
Course requirements
1. To produce a 5,000 word essay on local Christianity using either the ecological, culture, resources, or process perspectives; (60%)
2. To produce a MTh level thesis proposal; (40%)
Both pieces of work must be submitted by 7 May 2007.
